Mandarins and snails. I love snails. I love them because when it rains, they all crawl onto the sidewalk and leave these sticky trails behind them. I love them because the have eyes on top their antenna, and when you poke their eye, it retracts back for a bit. I love them because they can’t run away when I poke their eye. I love them because overall, they are beautiful animals. There is a mandarin tree growing next to the house I am staying in, and there is an abundance of these big snails crawling around, tasting the yummy fruit. I am no exception. After picking some mandarins, I feasted for a few days.
So I was in UCSD the other day, walking around and taking pictures. In this grove, I found a piece of paper and thought I would take a picture of it. Upon further inspection, I found it to be a lost gem. My favorite:

Hehe. In case you need clarification on the last two,
Torrey Pines State Park. Gorgeous! This is the hike/jog I do on my easier days. The elevation is about 400 ft and the trails are sandy, so it is easier on the legs. This place has a lot of wonderful things about it. Not only is it right next to the ocean, the squirrels, rabbits, and rattlesnakes make this trip into an adventure. There are also many points of interest, revealing stunning scenery and natural habitat. Taking the longer trail, you can get to the beach on the other side. This way, it is possible to walk back to the parking lot barefoot, with waves crashing at your feet.
So, this is Iron Mountain in San Diego. Elevation change: ~1200 ft. Distance to top: 3.5 miles. Tomorrow will be my third run to the top of this bad boy. The one thing that San Diego does not lack is off road trails. I have to say, jogging up this thing is an amazing workout. Running uphill becomes a slow and weary battle that only one party might lose, me. Once you get to the top, it’s another 3.5 miles back, but it goes much quicker. Running downhill might be hard on one’s knees, but if you take small enough steps and watch out where you step, it is quite enjoyable. So here I am, craving for more jogging with the sunrise to an amazing view. Sure, 7 miles of trail running is hard for me, but soon I am looking forward to jogging up this thing with ease. Depending on the morning and the fog, sometimes it is hard to even see the parking lot down at the bottom.
First day in San Diego!!! After I was picked up at the airport, Kendall, Sherman and I went for a hike at Torrey Pines National Park. Walked on the beach and ended up jogging up to the peak, after sitting in an airplane for four hours. As a side note, please do not ever douse yourself in cologne, knowing you will be sitting next to someone on a long plane ride. This guy’s cologne was so strong, my eyes got watery and my nose felt irritated half of the day. Anyway, San Diego plants are quite beautiful. After our hike, we went for some lunch and got Phở with some egg rolls. Delicious! The weather is perfect: warm with little or no wind and a bit sunny. Summer awaits!
Summer is here, and nature shines in all of it’s beauty :) I will miss Morton this summer, as well as the drives to and from Urbana. However, I am hopeful to find new beautiful routes in soCal that I will enjoy as well!
After a steamy day in the suburbs, a rain cloud hovered over my house and it gets dark. Suddenly, giant drops of water start falling out of the sky onto the parched grass and the thirsty flowers. I put my running shorts on and step outside for my first summer shower. The droplets are hitting the pavement, and I could smell the dust particles mixing with the rain, forming a stuffy, yet silky smooth scent that is always welcome to my nose. I step on the grass and let my bare feet graze the droplets on the lush terrain. I start to slowly jog on the damp grass, enjoying every rain droplet falling on my body. My clothes get drenched fast, but I welcome the feeling as a part of this happy summer experience. I start running faster, and before long, I am sprinting as fast as I can on the squishy grass. I stop after getting to the top of a small hill, observing the sky and everything around me. A sense of calmness and relaxation engulfs me and I start running back as fast as I can. My speed and the wet grass going down hill causes me to slip and fall flat on my back. I laugh because the lush grass acts as a cushion, making me slide down a few feet down the hill. I get up right away and start running, this time slower, enjoying every step. I reach my house and sit on the sidewalk, which has been heated by the scorching sun throughout the day. Cool rain feels like a soothing contrast to the warm sidewalk, and I can see steam rising up from everywhere. For a few minutes, my body is emanating all of the heat it built up in my short run, and it feels great. I open my mouth and let the sweet nature’s nectar fall on my tongue. I smile, knowing that summer the simple joys of summer are here.
This belgian dude is awesome…and this song totally rocks…gotta love dance music….even though i can only tell he is singing about hard life and that dancing helps with all it… but that is all i really need to know to enjoy this fine tune…
It has been several years since I have gone to the auto show, and truthfully, I have not been missing much. You can see the general trend of cars getting more mileage and all models look fairly similar to each other across the board. There are some key differences, of course. My favorite thing in this whole show was the variety of small cars available, and I am a huge sucker for these things…from a variety of smart cars, mini coops, to fiat500 and so on…those little cars were so cute i wanted to adopt one then and there…of course, I would be taken out in handcuffs if I tried to explain that the car wanted to leave with me, but I almost gave the idea a chance. There were some cool muscle cars, as always, and some sleek looking concept cars that look very futuristic. It was great to see some cars that are run on just electricity and have great mileage as well…Mach 5…that brought back some childhood memories of the cartoon I used to watch all the time…what a power! grrrowl….I guess now i can skip the show for another four or five years, unless something drastically changes soon.
